IMG_1438After far from ideal conditions and prep at Oulton Park I went into this race wanting to get all of that right. I ate properly, rested the day before (any excuse not to do housework 😉 and generally avoided last minute faff. I even warmed up on the bike… a first for me. But with a 4am leave time and 2hr drive I suppose booking a hotel would’ve been more beneficial for an 8am start.

One of those days when I knew very early on I wouldn’t be able to hold anywhere near the pace I wanted to in the first run… no idea why but for that reason the next 3.5 laps of the 10K course were pretty grim. I knew I could make it up on the bike, I just had to get through this! I came into T1 in a rather worrying 24th place, so more than a fair bit to do on the bike then!!

Thank god my bike legs didn’t disappoint and bike rode like a dream. Immediately I was overtaking and moving my way back up the field. I soon settled into a pace and came into T2 8th lady.
On to a final run that was even slower and more painful than the first but I hung on hoping that the couple of ladies who overtook me weren’t in my AG (thankfully they weren’t). To my delight I won my AG and managed to hang on to 10th female overall.  I’ll take the positives from this one. When it came down to a mental battle, I won.

IMG_3053So really happy with a British AG Title, top 3 bike split and another seasons goal ticked off. Thanks to Chris for all of his coaching support and to Giant Leamington / Liv Cycling for a rapid bike!
